Foods that you should avoid to give your Cats

Aug 22, 2022

Sometimes you might feel the want to overly pamper your cat. Although it is nothing wrong to shower your little one with loads of love, it is not wise to let the love seep in during meal time. Here’s a look at the five most dangerous foods for your cat, how they affect their bodies, and what to do in case of an emergency.

  1. Onions/Garlic

Although cats are known to be more pickier eaters than dogs, they can easily have an entire bowl of onions and garlic. When consumed, onions and garlic cause the destruction to red blood cells and lead to anemia. The reaction on the health of the cat is determined by the amount of it consumed and toxic reactions can easily be identified with symptoms like lethargy and loss of appetite. Once the symptoms are noticed, it is best to consult the vet at the earliest.

  1. Raw Eggs

Just as in humans, the consumption of raw eggs can lead to salmonella in cats. The symptoms of the disease varies but can include vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy. Salmonella can also be transmitted to humans from animals, making it even more important to keep your cat away from eggs and to properly wash your hands after baking or cooking with raw eggs.

  1. Alcohol

Consumption of even a little amount of spirit is very harmful for the health of cats. Alcohol has the same intoxicating effect on cats just as on humans but also harms the functioning of the basic bodily tasks. Whenever accidently ingested, the vet must be consulted immediately.

  1. Raw Fish

Like raw eggs, raw meat and fish can cause food poisoning in cats.

  1. Tuna

A diet rich in tuna can not only cause mercury poisoning in the cat but can also leave them malnourished. This is because it doesn’t contain all of the important vitamins and minerals the cat needs. A bite now and then won’t hurt them, but it’s best to steer clear of tuna as a main source of your cat’s diet.

It is advisable to visit the vet without much delay whenever these dangerous food items are consumed as the toxicity may end up turning to be very serious or may even take the life of your little one.

Stir clear of these food items and keep your feline companion safer at all times.
